How to start a new storyboard

Explore three simple ways to begin your storyboard: AI-generated scripts, importing existing scripts, or building from scratch

Written by Karen Mc Guinness

Storyboards typically begin with a script, and images can be added later to bring the story to life. There are several ways to start your storyboard depending on your workflow and preferences.

Three ways to add or upload your script

1. Create a script with AI

If you have a script outline or rough draft, the built-in AI generator can help expand it into a full script. Simply add or upload your outline, and the AI will generate a detailed script, then automatically create a storyboard based on it.

2. Stick to your script

If you already have a finalized script, import it directly. This will populate your storyboard scenes based on the script as-is. You can customize the import by specifying note field names and setting the number of scenes.

3. Start with an Empty Storyboard

Start with a blank canvas and add scenes, script notes, and images as you go. This is ideal if you prefer full creative control from the beginning.

Choosing the Right Starting Point

Each option offers a different level of structure and flexibility, whether you want AI assistance, already have a script in hand, or prefer to build your storyboard from scratch.

Choose the option that best fits your workflow, and don’t worry, you can always make changes as you go!
