If you're starting your first Boords storyboard, you've come to the right place 🕺
Whether you’re starting from scratch or working from an existing script, setting up your storyboard is quick & easy. Follow these steps to get started 👇
Create new storyboard
Go to your Project Dashboard and create a new project folder to keep things organized.
Click + Create a new project.
Create your storyboard by selecting + New > Create storyboard.
Choose how you'd like to begin:
Start with an empty storyboard – Perfect if you want to build your storyboard from the ground up.
Import a script – If you already have a script, this option will automatically structure your storyboard for you.
Let’s break down each option!
Adding a Script
Option 1: Start with an empty storyboard
If you don’t have a script ready, no worries! You can build your storyboard as you go.
Give your storyboard a name and choose the aspect ratio for your frames.
Click Create Storyboard, and you're off!
Now, decide how you want to begin:
Start with your script first (recommended!) – Add text directly into the Script Editor or type notes into each frame’s note fields.
Begin with images – Upload images first and add your script later.
Draw from scratch – Use the Editor to create your own visuals.
Option 2: Import a Script
If your script is ready to go, this option makes setting up your storyboard a breeze.
Upload your script file (PDF, Word or text format) or paste the text directly into the field provided.
Have specific preferences? Add any special requests for how the storyboard should be structured.
Choose your language and select the aspect ratio for your frames.
Want a visual jumpstart? Choose to auto-generate up to two images based on your script, using your preferred image style.
Click Create Storyboard, and your script will automatically populate the storyboard’s note fields.
Adding Images
Now, let’s bring your storyboard to life with visuals! You have several ways to add images 👇
Upload your own images – Simply drag and drop them onto the Start with Images area, or click Choose Files to browse your device.
Browse the Image Library – Need inspiration? Search for icons or high-quality photos to enhance your storyboard.
(Learn more about the Image Library here).
Use the AI Image Generator – Generate unique images based on your descriptions.
Draw directly into frames – Prefer a hands-on approach? Use the Editor to sketch your own images from scratch.
(More on drawing into frames here).
💡 Remember: You can always swap out, adjust, or add more images later - your storyboard is totally flexible!
You're All Set! Whether you started with a script or built your storyboard step by step, you now have a solid foundation for your project. Keep refining, adding visuals, and adjusting until everything feels just right.
